Great design, toothsome content December 9, 2008 Scott G. (Syracuse, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was pleasantly surprised in flipping through this magazine. The design is funky but very readable. It's a little above my friend's 12 year old daughter's level, but I'd rather see her with this than some sugar-and-celebrity loaded teen magazine. The articles are well-written, with thought provoking ideas, but (I think) still accessable to a teen audience. Very impressive - if they've gone 16 issues, I don't see why they can't make a serious run of it.
Bravo Lipmag for Speaking for Those Too Quiet! January 19, 2009 Katherine (Massachusetts/ Connecticut) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A cross between Cosmopolitan's sex columns, glamorous model shoots and Teen Magazine's "this is how teenage life is" frankness, Lipmag is a pleasure to read and a breath of fresh air. In one issue, there are articles about how to put a condom on, fiction stories, poetry, goth fashion, and customer input.
Lipmag is fun, excentric enough to stand out, and completely exciting.
We've got to get this stuff on the news stands!
A delightfully refreshing read for young women August 17, 2009 Margaret Ball 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish there'd been a magazine like this when I was a teenager! It's a refreshing change from the typical fashion-and-celebrities junk on most magazine stands; full of insightful, thought-provoking articles for creative, independent young women. I bought this magazine mainly so I could get a look at the quality of interior color printing provided by CreateSpace; now that I've had a chance to look at it, I'm going to pass it on to the daughter of a friend who I am sure will enjoy reading it. (I hope my friend forgives me if Janaelle starts lobbying for a subscription!)
One gripe which has to do with Amazon, not the magazine: it was packaged so badly that the front and back covers and several interior pages were crumpled and mangled when it got here. Are Amazon's packing and shipping standards slipping?
Happy Birthday, lip! November 19, 2008 Rachel Funari (AUS) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Most indie mags don't last this long, but here is lip, come so far from its first days: now 64 pages, in full colour and on sale through Amazon. That's 16 issues and six years later! This issue digs right into lip's roots: young women's experiences of feminism; growing up, getting out of home and following your dreams; a world of young designers. And spits out something new: lip's first fiction by a guy! Get into the male psyche for a change with the sparse and forthright prose of celebrated young author Jack Heath.
